Trans Resistance Behind Bars: Free Zhi Kai!

Feb 10, 3pm-4:30pm, Quatrefoil Library

Trans people in Minnesota prisons have been fighting for their rights for decades, and have made headlines in the last year with some big victories. What are conditions like inside Minnesota prisons for trans prisoners? And how can those of us on the outside join the fight alongside incarcerated trans people?

Zhi Kai Vanderford has been a “first” many times in the fight for trans healthcare and rights in Minnesota prisons. He recently became the first trans man in the state to be transferred to a men’s prison. Today, he continues to advocate for gender affirming healthcare inside, while at the same time working hard to get out of prison and join his thriving LGBTQ community on the outside.

Join the Free Zhi Kai! Support Committee for a panel discussion, featuring words from Zhi Kai and formerly incarcerated trans speakers on what they’ve experienced, what they’ve won, and the campaigns to free Zhi Kai and to win better treatment for trans prisoners.

Masks strongly encouraged at this event.
